Since June 2016 H.E Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle is the new TNK chairman. Current president of Caritas Internationalis, Cardinal Tagle has always been insisting on helping the poor. Not only through words but in having a great consistency in life.
Cardinal Tagle is close to TNK since several years. During his first visit at TNK, on December 2013, he said to a group of our former street children: “Sometimes, you may think that you are the ones who always get help…That is also true. But you know, you are the ones who help us. We learn from you how to be strong, how to keep faith and how to continue loving in the midst of our situations in life.”
Since that visit, Cardinal Tagle hold a wide range of meetings with TNK, for the greatest joy of the children! All the foundation, children and staff are deeply grateful to Cardinal Tagle of being the chairman of their large family.
During summer time drawing activities were proposed to TNK children, thanks to one of our staff Kuya Alex Cristo. Since 4 years he is working at TNK as a trainor at the workshop dedicated to our children with special needs. Kuya Alex was himself a street child. As he says, drawing has been a therapeutic support to rebuilt his life after being abandoned by his family. It’s in this perspective that Kuya Alex offered to our children a « summer art workshop » which ended with an art exhibit with all the productions of the children. A great event which highlighted talented children.
After the success of this summer art workshop, Kuya Alex proposes now every Saturday drawing lessons to our children. A great way to express the feelings they cannot say through words.
From April 18 to April 27, all our « Street Children Program » went on Summer Camp for 10 days in Quezón Province. This was a wonderful time, for the new ones especially (from the Drop In centers), who went on holidays for the first time of their lives, discovering the beach and the sea.
This is an annual amazing time for all, children who had 10 days of fun and the foundation staff who had organized so many activities: swimming, sports tournaments, talent shows, dancing, …
This year again, every child went back to Manila with lots of great memories in their mind, happy to see the sea, to enjoy holidays with their friends, brothers and sisters of the foundation.
Darwin’s Cup is a TNK’s basket-ball tournament named after the late Darwin Ramos from one of our shelters dedicated to the children with special needs. He passed away last September 23, 2012 while battling with his long time sickness that is diagnosed to be myopathie. He spent 7 years in the shelter of the Foundation.
The sport event was conceptualized by the staff of foundation. The tournament encourages all the TNK children and staff members to be part of the games. It starts on March 18th and continue over this summer school holidays.
One of the objectives of the tournament is to unite all the children and staff through sports activity.
A year ago, Glyzelle’s tears moved the whole world. The children’s desperate cry had just been brought to light before Pope Francis, having made un unannounced visit to the children two days earlier. Flashback to these encounters that have marked the foundation.
Jay-Jay, 7 years old, is a child of our TNK’s family. He joined one of our center for children with special needs last march 2015. His irresistible wide smile spreads a great joy all around him! Due to a cerebral palsy, Jay-Jay needs a specific treatment, a physical therapy and a wheelchair perfectly adapted to his body.
Thanks to a generous donator – a whole Pilipino family who wants to remain anonymous – we were able to order a new wheelchair according to the recommendations of Jay-Jay’s doctor. After long months of waiting, Jay-Jay finally received his new wheelchair this week, just before Christmas. What a great joy for him and all TNK family! We are deeply grateful for this family’s deed.
Children with special needs, as Jay-Jay, are even more at risk on the streets of Metro Manila. Our foundation has been sheltering them since 2006 and is currently setting up professional trainings for the ones who are now adults capable of working.
Rev. Fr. Matthieu Dauchez, Executive Director of the TNK Foundation gave a talk on “The Prodigious Mystery of Joy” last Saturday 14th November in Our Lady Queen of peace, EDSA Shrine, Ortigas (Metro Manila – Philippines).
Manila’s street children are rejected, assaulted and abused. They have every reason to shout out their indignation and inevitably sink into despair. Life has not spared them any moment. Happiness seems forbidden to them.
And yet, everyone who meets them discover a surprising joy that bursts out from the very deep of their wounded selves. Is it an illusion, a scandal or a profound mystery that makes them seize Life eagerly? Father Matthieu Dauchez shared the exemplary teachings offered by the poorest of the little ones.
